day trip from florence to pisa and cinque terre

I'm travelling in March & have very limited time & I want to see as many places as I could, is this day trip even possible? Is the train the best way to do it?

A day trip to Pisa from Florence is reasonable, but not to CT also.

I wouldn't say a day trip to the CT alone would even be advisable. It's a great place to wander through the villages, hike, dine, etc but really takes a full day (or two). If you are looking for something to roll into your Pisa trip, consider Lucca. It's en route to Pisa from Florence. I recommend renting a bike and roaming the city walls.

daytrip from florence to ct??are you crazy?? and forget march-unless you like clouds and rain. Check weather records at weather.com or such for number of rainy days in florence in march,,,spend a little more and go in may/october or you risk major disappointment - esp in outdoors places like ct--who wants to hike in mud and grey clouds??blah!

Marjorie, Especially in March, a day trip to the Cinque Terre is not really worth the effort, as you wouldn't have time to see much. It will probably be "quiet" in the five villages at that time of the year, and the weather may not be the most favourable. The rail trip each way will be a minimum of about 2H:20M. A day trip to Pisa would be easier, but IMHO the time and effort just to spend a short time to see the famous Tower is not worth the cost (unless it's really important to you). If you have "very limited time", there's lots to see in Florence. Happy travels!

I disagree wholeheartedly with most of the posters on here, a day trip to Cinque Terra from Florence is entirely possible, especially if you have a car. Consider that the first time I ever went to the CT, it was a day trip. We hiked from Monterosso to Vernazza, explored Vernazza a bit, took the train back to Monterosso, had a great dinner at a local restaurant, then went home. Now consider that we did it from Vicenza which is a lot further away than Florence (probably a good 3 hours further). You might not get to see everything but you can do plenty in a day and it's definitely worth it. At the very least it will whet your appetite to want to return as it did mine; that first trip made such an impression on me that we go back just about every year.
