Hi... We are trying to do a day trip from Florence to Volterra (1/2 day), Volterra to San Gimignano (1/2 day) and then back to where we will be staying in Florence.
I have done crazy research looking for bus/train schedules and so far I've only found a (SITA roundtrips) bus schedule from Florence to Volterra (with a transfer at a place called Colle V.E. ??)
Any advice? Thanks!!!!
I'll leave the schedules to someone else but I can tell you that Colle V.E. is Colle Val d'Elsa which is a town just south of Poggibonsi. Basically the point at which you begin to head west towards San G. and Volterra.
The trip involves 3 bus companies - SITA, CPT and TRA.IN. Fortunately, SITA simplifies things by combining the separate schedules for the places you want to visit on one schedule which can be found online at www.sitabus.it/sita-toscana/Firenze-Siena08.pdf. Check at Florence bus station to confirm which buses are running the day you want to travel, as some times listed may be for seasonal buses.
oh yeah, i had that pdf but it doesnt say how to go from volterra to s. gimignano (or vice versa). ive read that its better to rent a car?
