We are taking a cruise in September and will be stopping several places in Italy. I don't want to take the big bus tours that the cruise company offers. I am looking for companies that do small van tours. I'd like recommendations for companies that you recommend. Thanks much, Val

There is a new Rick Steves guidebook for ports. That will answer many of your questions. We often get local tours through the TI in each port.
