I'm looking for a day tour from Rome to Pompeii. this doesn't necessarily need Naples museum.
Years ago- maybe 15!- I used Viator (https://www.viator.com) for this day trip- it was bus transportation to the site and back, and I think maybe 3-4 hours of time on your own. I also remember it took a really long time to get back to my hotel, since the bus stopped along the way, a lot, at other hotels.
I have, again, it's been years, used the company in other countries, too, for independent getting around, soli, with no rental car for day trips.
Because of the distance, that is a hard day trip. You can easily spend half to 3/4 of day just walking around Pompeii. With a bus trip from Paris will not give you more than a couple of hours in the ruins.
Last November, we did a day tour with The Roman Guy (aka The Tour Guy). We went to Pompeii and Sorrento. It was wonderful!

Wendy, please heed the advice shared in the thread Tim linked plus some others. Rome to Pompeii and back is a really long, ugly bus or van ride from Rome. It's more time sitting in the vehicle than exploring the scavi itself! If you can't save Pompeii for a future trip when you can give the Naples/Pompeii/Amalfi/Sorrentine region the time it deserves, then I'd look at tours which start in Naples or at Pompeii itself. Take a high-speed train to Naples and a local commuter train to Pompeii, OR book a tour which starts in Naples and meets you at the train station. High-speed to Naples cuts some of the travel time it would take by road.
Ostia Antica would be so, so much faster and easier from Rome.
We booked Ferdinando Badagliacca for an all-day tour last May. He put together a custom 10+ hour tour and we visited three sites (two in Tivoli and the Borghese Gallery) with a driver.
I don’t know if he goes to Pompei, but you may want to connect with him. His viewpoint and storytelling really add context and meaning. You can find him on tours by locals or through his website: http://romeintours.com/
Have fun whatever you choose.
We used City Wonders back in 2019. It was a very long day, but it suited our needs and we were satisfied with the entire experience.

Did you check which, if any. day tours are listed or advertised on trip advisor?
I went to Italy in July 2017. I spent 3 nights in Naples. Maybe I could have been ok with 2 nights in Naples. I went to Pompeii as a day trip from Naples. I took the subway from near my hostel to a Circumvesuviana train station. I don't remember which station. At that station I bought round trip train tickets to Pompeii scavi, from an employee at a ticket window. I saw the sight unguided. Before my trip I read a big coffee-table sized book with many illustrations and accompanying text, about the sight. I borrowed it from my local library. Others are right that seeing Pompeii as a day trip from Rome doesn't logistically make sense. It makes better sense to spend at least one or 2 nights in Naples and see Pompeii as a day trip from there.
In 2008 we did this on a bus with Enjoy Rome. IN 1997 we took a bus tour that included the drive on the Amalfi Coast but it was a very long day-I think 7AM to 9PM.
