We will be arriving in Rome by plane in mid-May and heading down by overnight train to Sicily about three days later. We have been to Rome before, and the only real to do on our Rome itinerary (outside of enjoying Rome) is to see Pompeii. So we are thinking of getting a hotel near the train station and taking a day tour of Pompeii. Any suggestions on either of these would be appreciated. Thanks in advance...
Perhaps the above Search will have some helpful info. It's a very long day from Rome. Good luck!
Thanks. Perhaps it might be better to spend the three days in Naples instead of Rome.
If you really want to see Pompeii than Naples is a better idea. To get the full experience I would highly recommend Pompeii plus a couple of hours at Oplontis. Then Herculaneum and a visit to the Archeological Museum in Naples.
We really enjoy Sorrento. It is very close to Pompei and the Amalfi Coast is always nice.
If really interested in thoroughly seeing Pompeii then spending three days in Naples makes a lot of sense. Schedule your flight to Naples and return to Rome via train. That would be a better way to organize it.
