What is the best option of seeing most of the villages on the CT? Is it possible to take the train from LaSpezia, then boat back to LaSpezia?

Timing your visit to use boats is going to be somewhat restrictive. Using the local trains from La Spezia if the best method (IMO). I'd suggest arranging your tour so that you can have a fine dinner at one of the restaurants in Monterosso, before taking the train back to La Spezia in the evening. Of course the best experience would be to stay in one of the five towns.
I have the same question as the previous post..... what time of year will you be there.

Many believe that the CT villages are best viewed from the water. You might consider taking the ferry from La Spezia to Monterosso, which would allow you to view all five villages, then work your way back toward La Spezia on the train, stopping in one or two villages. Ferry schedule below. Be prepared for crowds.
