Day Tour from Rome to Pompeii?

I realize it would be a marathon of a day but is there a tour company that does this?

I am sure there is but it is easy to do via the train. The local train will dump right at the entrance to Pompeii. You have to change in Naples. When in Rome check the local TI for recommendations.

Hi Jan, try Carrani tours, our B and B, Nicholas Inn suggested them to us. At first we wanted to do the trip ourselves following Rick's book but it was the end of a 2 week trip and we just wanted to do it the easy way. It was a long day but it was worth it.

Had a great experience with this company at the Vatican http://www.walksofitaly.com/ but I have not used them for Pompeii. Answers the question "is there a tour company" though.... You can easily take the trains and meet up with a guide. Highly recommend Gaetano Manfredi.

Jan, it's very easy to do this on your own and will save you tons of money and time. All you need to do is to take the train from Rome to Naples. You can buy those tickets the day of travel. Once you get to Naples follow the crowd downstairs to the commuter train. Buy tickets for the train heading towards Sorrento, tell the person at the window you are going to Pompeii Scavi. This is the circumvesuviana and will take you directly to the ruins. Once at the ruins it is very easy to hire a guide and see the site or you can do it on your own with a map. The train tickets from Rome to Naples cost 43 euros but you can get the mini fare for as low as 22 euros if your dates are set. The trip will take an hour. The commuter train will cost around 10 euros R/T and takes a half hour each way. If you sign on with a tour company that goes from Rome to Pompeii you will spend very little time at the ruins and spend a lot of money. Donna
