Day Parking in Venice

We will be parking outside of Venice next week. There is a garage in Tronchetto. Ther is also parking by the tain station. We are only staying for the one day for a quick look at Venice. Yes, yes, I know this is criminal but pardon us in advance.

Suggestions on best parking place and susequent transport to Venice is appreciated.

Parking at the Tronchetto is easy and costs 20 Euro for the day. There is a vaporetto stop nearby to take you around Venice. Doing only a day trip, however, I think I would park by the train station in Mestre and take the train into Venice. It should cost only 5 Euro and then the train brings you closer in to the Santa Lucia train station.

My daughter found information on another part of Rick Steves website suggesting parking at the train station at Mestre and then taking the train into Venice. This seems to be a good option. We now plan to do this for out day trip unless we receive advice to the contrary.

Thanks for the help.

Where will you be coming from? and how early do you plan on arriving? What day of the week?

The traffic around can at times be very heavy. It might even be advisable to park further out and train a bit longer.

As a side note, the train trip in from Mestre takes 12 minutes. And, they run late into the night. Not a big deal to park in Mestre and day-trip in.

We are coming from Florence and should arrive in Venice on Sunday around 9:30 AM on May 19. Should we anticipate significant taffic delays around Mestre Train Station?

Agree with Larry...Mestre is the best, easiest and cheapest way to go. There is a parking garage right across the street, and it takes approx 12-15 mins to go back/forth to Venice each way on the train. We were there in Mar 08 and had a ball...coming from Florence, there will be traffic...there is traffic all the time, just about anywhere in IT. I'd leave early and plan to arrive in Mestre around 0930 or so, park and take the train into Venice. Not sure how long you have or how much of an early riser you are, I may even get up and be there earlier, depending what you are trying to pack into the one-day visit.
