Day One in Rome

For day one in Rome what is Rick's suggested walking tour? Rick had great recommendations on walking tours for day one in Paris, but have not found that in current Rome guidebook so ANY suggestions for a day One itinerary to keep moving and not sleep is appreciated!

In what part of town are you staying? I'm sure we can come up with a good Welcome-to-Rome sightseeing walk for you!

I would do his Heart of Rome walk which is in pocket Rome book and his Italy 2015 or 2016 ebook.
If you're feet are already tired, consider a hop on hop off bus to keep you from laying down in the hotel !

I'll be the dissenter regarding Rome's hoho buses: there are too many issues with them, and they've been seeing too many lukewarm-to-terrible reviews for a long time (dirty; broken equipment; stuck in traffic; too full to pick up passengers; surly staff; etc.). They also can't drop you right at some of the attractions as those are in pedestrianized areas. Believe it or not, it's often quicker to just walk between some of the sights than to ride!

When at all possible, the very best way to explore Rome is on your feet - which can take you places motorized vehicles can't, and can actually be quicker than any sort of transit - with maybe the occasional hop on public metro or city bus.

Good suggestions for the 'Caesar Shuffle' or 'Heart of Rome' walks mentioned above. Sleep? There are so many interesting things to look at that you'll quickly forget all about how jet-lagged you are! Coffee helps as well, and there are umptybumpty sidewalk spots for that inaugural cuppa Italian joe: a twice-daily event for us when in The Boot. :O)

I agree with Kathy but I would add an espresso.

Rome is packed with sites. After you drop off your luggage at a hotel - go find lunch or gelato. Walk around the area of your hotel and pop into churches. You will be amazed at how much fun and productive you can be just doing this. My family and I did this in the Campo dei Fiori area. It 's a lot of fun to just explore on your own for a couple of hours. You can see and experience a lot.
