We have 2 full days in Ortisei in early October. Any recommendations for day hikes. We are all in our 60's but relatively fit. Would like good views but not up for anything technical. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Sent you a PM.
I was hoping you would get some replies to your post as we are also looking for not too demanding day hikes when we are in Ortisei in early October. It looks like you can take the Ortisei-Furnes-Seceda lifts to reach an easy hike with spectacular views but I’m still looking for more hikes.
Ortisei is located in a valley. You take a gondola up one side to reach hiking trails above. On the other side, you take a funicular train up to the hiking areas. Both sides are so beautiful and there are places to eat up there too. We loved our days of hiking above Oetisei. We also enjoyed the town.
There are many easier hikes and walks in the area. Stop in at the Ti for a map, although your B&B, hotel, or apartment should leave you one. They will also supply a bus pass for the duration of your stay. We have found the Val Gardena Card to make economic sense, covering a dozen lifts in the area.
Some of our favorite hikes:
- The Steger Trail on the Alpe di Siusi. It's a bit long but amazing views and an easy trail, well-signed. FYI this requires going up and back at Compatsch to Siusi, a lift not covered by the VG pass. Takes the whole day to go, hike, and come back, but worth it. The bus pass you are given covers the bus to and from the lift.
- Going up at Ortisei to the Alpe di Siusi, walking across to Compatsch, then returning via the gondola at Compatsch, followed by the bus back to Ortisei.
- The walk at Rasciesa, reached by funicular. Out-and-back to the chapel is an easy 45 minutes each way. Stop at the rifugio for strudel or lunch.
- The trail from Ciampinoi to Passo Sella via the Emilio Comici rifugio. Take the Ciampinoi lift up from Selva, hike, then take the bus back from Passo Sella. Emilio Comici is a great refreshment stop. At the "Y" follow the signs with the baby buggy thru the Citta' dei Sassi. The other way has boulders. Ugh!
- At Seceda, very easy to walk up to the Forcella Pana, but it is short, only 40 minutes round trip.
Too many others. We kept busy for four weeks here in 2016. Amazing place!
