Dash Cam ... a suggestion if driving.

I bought a dash cam for my rental in Italy. A great way to record your driving experience on those beautiful Tuscany road trips.

What a great idea!! I saw them at Costco yesterday but didn't notice the price. Clever tip Jim..

Jim,

That's a great suggestion! I may consider that on a future trip. I suppose one could also use on of those GoPro Cameras, as that would also allow the user to wear it in pedestrian mode (I noticed a few people doing that when I was in Europe in September).

There is also a suction-cup attachment for the GoPro that you can stick onto the dashboard...this is a great idea! Wish I would have thought of it before our trip this summer! Next time...

I bought a cheap Go-Pro kinda thing from Amazon called "Yi Cam". It worked great. I have all those harrowing hill town, mountain driving, hair pin turns from Florence to Sienna on the back roads on it. Great memories.

We used our go-pro to shoot time lapses and also to record driving while we were in Italy and it worked great. We found the suction cup mount was only useful in the car. A heavy-duty clamp-mount came in handy the rest of the time.

This is the first time I have heard of folk using a dash cam for sightseeing.

They are sold in England to provide evidence of what happened in the case of an accident, or if you are the victim of accident staging fraudsters.

It might be a good idea to put it to a more pleasant purpose.

Does your car get a selfie-stick? Will we soon see the dash cams being turned around on the people so we get selfie movies of them enjoying the roads?

jkc - Actually I do think many "You Tube-er's" use GoPro's to video themselves while driving. Terrible. lol

I'm happy just capturing the beautiful scenery (and other crazy drivers) along the way!

What a great idea! Hubby & I are really into photography but I hadn't considered this! We will be driving all over Tuscany next year and I'm considering purchasing one...anyone have experience with after market brands or is the Go Pro the only way to go? In other words, will a cheaper knock-off work as well as the Go Pro? Thanks for your suggestions.
