Meredith, I have used Dark Rome for several tours. They are one fine company among several fine companies, and their guides are excellent, certified, and fully informed. Interestingly, I used Dark Rome tours in other cities, and Walks of Italy tours in Rome, mostly just due to scheduling. Yes, Dark Rome recently changed its overall name to City Wonders, appropriate since it is active in many cities now. Whether these tours are worth the extra cost depends on you and your preferences. Good guides can provide a lot of information, answer your questions, never get lost, and allow you to keep your eyes on the sites instead of your guide book or map.

We like to be able to enjoy a place and not rely on me reading all the descriptive signs or the whole guidebook to get the most out of a place.....guided tours of attractions do that, make it a little more interactive and "alive" for me.....but to each his own! I will be on several Dark Rome/Walks of Italy tours all over the country in a few weeks. I like it to have some things scheduled and then the rest of the time have time to wander, explore, and do our own thing....
