Dancing House Hotel in Prague

We will be in Prague next July for 5 days. We have reservations at this hotel. Is the hotel awesome or contrived and something of an architectual joke? What about the location? Thank you kindly

It is a hotel ,restaurant and exhibition space, never been in it to stay but the restaurant is good and i was there a couple of years ago to see a Josef Lada exhibition, the viewing area from outside the restaurant is superb .Location wise it is absolutely fine all the major sights are walkable though you might want to take the tram up to the castle area. On Saturdays there is a great market on Naplavka just down from there ( 2 minutes walk). It is right on the river , well across the road from it but brilliant views ,tram stops almost outside and a short walk to the metro, you can walk across by bridge to the Andel area of the city in a few minutes.
From what I can gather it is the only area of the city that was badly damaged by allied bombs during WWII and that was accidental and the Dancing Building was what was put in place to replace the buildings that were there. Personally I love it.

Brad, we were in Prague Sept. 2019 for 6 nights. We stayed in Old Town but walked to the Dancing House aka “Fred & Ginger.” The area is in a good location. We are huge fans of Frank Gehry’s designs. He co-designed with Vlado Milunić. We also took a boat ride and took several photos of the house from the water side.

Since you will be 15 mins. from the Charles Bridge, we can recommend our favorite restaurant across the bridge. It’s called Hergetova Cihelna. Wonderful cuisine and a gorgeous view of the bridge at night. It was magical. That said, I just read that they closed in October. Hopefully they will reopen when safe.

We stayed a few blocks over at the Best Western - the area is fine - you're right on the river and can walk to the old centre really fast. The building is lovely, IMO.

(Also, maybe want to post this in Czech Republic instead of Italy)

Thanks for your response and I will correct the mistake. So, to be clear, you don't think it is absolutely essential to stay in the old town area?

I have made about 40 visits to Prague over many years and can count on one hand the times I have stayed in the Old town,There is a superb integrated public transport system that is cheap and very efficient,$5 day ticket will give you unlimited travel with the Prague area.

Thanks Uncle Gus. This will be our first time in Prague. My guess is that you probably have a few gems to recommend.
