I am road biking for two weeks in Switzerland and Italy. Can I bike the area between Le Spezia and Portofino on a road bike? Would like to spend a few days cycling in the area, and I just want to be sure it is feasible. Thanks.

Hi Cindy. I guess it depends on what you mean by feasible. The area is very hilly, and the roads are very steep, curvy, and non-direct. Suggest you look at a good Italy road map to check it out first. Enjoy your trip!

Cindy, As the previous reply indicated, the roads in that area tend to be curving and narrow mountain roads so perhaps not ideal for bicycling. The road into Vernazza was heavily damaged in the floods of Oct. 25, but I believe it's been at least partially repaired. Also, it's a considerable distance between La Spezia and Portofino so I'm assuming you were planning to take your bike on the train for part of the journey? Happy travels!
