Curreri Viaggi Bus from Naples (Napoli Centrale) to Sorrento?

We are traveling from Florence to Sorrento and have to transfer at the Napoli Centrale station. We know we can take the train or ferry the remainder of the trip. However, we would prefer not to take the train the rest of the way and learned from this Forum that the Curreri Viaggi bus now picks up in Napoli Centrale which would be ideal. However, the bus site does not show the train station as a stop. Can anyone verify this information and tell us how we can get the tickets? Also, where is the ticket office and pickup located in the station? Thank You!

mm,

AFAIK, the Curreri Viaggi coaches only go from Naples Airport to Sorrento. However I believe the EAV bus offers service from Napoli Centrale to Sorrento - https://www.eavsrl.it/web/ (unfortunately the site only appears to be in Italian - if you need translation I'm sure one of the forum members can help with that). This schedule might help - https://www.eavsrl.it/web/sites/default/files/eavbus/Napoli%20Sorrento%20e%20viceversa_0.pdf .

You could also look at the Campania Express - http://ots.eavsrl.it/web/public/ots/ticket/index?changeLang=en .

If you have a more generous budget, you could also hire a private transfer service - http://www.monettitaxi17.it/English.htm

Buon viaggio!

Thank you for your quick response Ken.

You confirmed the information I was able to find online about the other travel options. However, I am perplexed by the information someone posted about the Curreri Viaggi bus being available at Napoli Centrale as I am sure many would prefer to take that and be guaranteed a seat versus taking that crazy train. It is shocking that they don't do something to improve conditions for travelers that spend so much money in that country!

As Ken said, the Curreri Viaggi only travels back & forth between Napoli Capodichino airport and Sorrento station. We took it from Sorrento to the airport in March 2017 and for 11 Euro it was a great deal, except allow 2 hours at least as the bus got bogged down at Castellammare di Stabia for about a half hour. Fortunately, we had taken the the 8:30 AM bus for a 12:15 flight out to Munich.

LOL, Some of Italy's problematic "conditions" these days are those caused by too doggone MANY tourists! :O)

With a few exceptions virtually all public transport in Italy is for the benefit of the citizens FIRST and tourists second. The "crazy" Circumvesuviana is a commuter train, much like the "L" in Chicago" that is used by locals in the region to get around as well as by tourists traveling on a budget. It's a plus for the citizens that it's inexpensive, and those cheap tickets were a plus for us as well the day we went to Pompeii. It's one of those "living like a local" experiences.

As Ken and Jay stated, the Curreri bus doesn't go to Centrale. Schedules to/from the airport are here:

Schedule for the seasonal Campania Express "tourist" train from/to Garibaldi/Centrale.

So you are shocked because you think that the expensive Campania Express train, a train that has reserved seats and stops only in Herculaneum, Pompeii and Sorrento has been introduced for locals' needs and not for tourists.

One can only hope you are trying to be funny.

Dario,

My response was intended for the Circumvesuviana train which does not enjoy positive reviews or pictures. Unfortunately, there are even YouTube videos that display the concerns. This is why was I was investigating other travel options other than that train. Members of my family including myself have had some unfortunate experiences on several other occasions when using the train so I am trying to be extra cautious this time.

By the way, I do see some positive reviews on the Campania Express but it has limited departure times in Napoli Centrale.

The easiest way, if you don't want to use the Circumvesuvian would be to take the Alibus from Napoli Centrale to the airport. Bus runs every 30 minutes cost is 5€. Takes 15 minutes to reach Capodicino airport. Timetable:

Here is the timetable for the Curreri Viaggi bus to Sorrento. Dependent on the # of stops, could take 1Hr15m. Cost 10€.

We had no problems with using the commuter train several times and we had a ton of luggage. Just like any other public transportation anywhere in our opinion.

mm,

" It is shocking that they don't do something to improve conditions for travelers that spend so much money in that country!"

They have done something to improve conditions for travellers..... they started service with the Campania Express which is billed as a "touristic train". The website states "These trains have guaranteed seating, air conditioning, and space to store baggage." I've never used it but that sounds quite comfortable to me. Note that both the Circumvesuviana and the Campania Express depart from Napoli Garibaldi station, which is downstairs from Napoli Centrale.

Riding the Circumvesuviana can be somewhat of an adventure at times with a cast of colourful characters, but it will get you to the destination.

The Campania Express is a possible alternative, but it only runs four times a day from mid-March to October. There actually is a website in English that sells tickets online (unlike the standard Circumvesuviana). It runs on the same tracks as the Circumvesuviana, but since they check your tickets as you enter the train, it's less crowded and there's less chance of encountering pickpockets.
