I just received a quote from AutoEurope for a two week rental in May picking up in Rome and dropping off in Milan (we are staying in neither city) The rate is $558. There is full liability (at least the language implies full liability as no price is listed), but there is a$2500 Euro deductible. Is that normal? Is there a way to buy CDW? What does that cost? Are there other agencies you'd recommend--I've just seen several people recommend AutoEurope. Any advice appreciated...Also, while I have your attention, am interested in whether it is easier to pick up car at Rome airport or train (in terms of getting out of town) and the same with dropping off in Milan,,,Thank you

If you want a zero CDW you need to select the higher rate i.e. 'no deductible...' rate

Thanks. I got a quote from an agent and didn't explore the website myself. His email just lists the coverage I stated and does not mention the price to increase coverage. Not exactly sure what the difference is between the last two rates except that one is $100 higher. Will check the website.

You might get better rates a bit later in the year, still with AutoEurope. But generally about $500 a week with zero deductible is the norm nowadays.

500€ for two weeks is a pretty good rate IMO.
Auto Europe's extended cover is not exactly the same as the no-deductible CDW that you can buy at the car rental counter, but it is much cheaper and the end result is the same. Auto Europe's cover is a third-party cover, so my understanding is that you would have to pay for damages then file the paperwork to Auto Europe, whereas with the car rental company's plan, there is no cash advance. Never actually needed to file, so I do not know what the exact process is.
