Where one can get the better currency exchange rate in Rome? We have some swiss franc, which we want to convert to Euro. Since the exchange rate in airport is always expensive, we were thinking of getting done outside of airport. Any pointers would be helpful.
Any currency exchange is going to be a bad deal. Try to keep your left over Francs to a minimum and just suck it up if you will not be back in Switzerland for a long time. We should be talking small amounts here. plus or minus a couple of EUR.
This is left over from previous trip, so I have to convert it. I don't want to preserve it for next trip to Switzerland, which I never know if I am going to take.
If memory serves, I recall seeing currency exchange stores ( kind of hole in the wall places) in Rome. You may want to keep a lookout for them and after seeing 2 or 3 see/compare what kind of rates they are offering.
I had no need for one when I was there so didn't make real note of them, but it seems the rates varied from place to place
Look for signs that say "Cambio" or "Change". They are all over the city at major streets, and don't have much difference among them in exchange rates.
The airport or the major train stations will have them.
Where else are you going to in Italy? If you are going to Milan, you may have better results as that is nearer the Swiss border.
You might want to hang on to that very valuable Swiss Currency - it seems to only get stronger and stronger while the Euro and Dollar and Pound Sterling fluctuate all over the place.
You might check with your bank at home and see what they can do for you. I get a better rate selling foreign currency to my bank than I would at any currency exchange place. Not much more, but enough to notice. Otherwise, any place you will find in Rome is probably going to be about the same (not so great) rate.
