Culture Week in Rome???? Effect on lines?

In looking up the Roma Pass this afternoon, I discovered that the website now says that Culture Week starts while I am in Rome. I am wondering how big of an impact this might have on the lines at the sites I plan to see (Colosseum, Forum, etc) and what will be open for free. I know I can continue to research this (and will of course do so) but I literally discovered this 5 minutes ago and am bouncing between panic at the thought of longer lines and joy at saving some money!

Interesting Boyd, thanks for your reply! If the Colosseum isn't included in the free sites then I guess I might need to figure out whether the Roma Pass is worth it!

I will of course come back and post anything useful I find. It seems like from a cursory search that "all state-run sites" should be free though? Hopefully someone who actually knows will show up to this post soon :)

The dates for Culture Week are April 16-25 (in case that is useful information to anyone!)

AND (not to keep replying to my own post) I NOW realize why tickets to the Accademia for while I am in Florence were not being sold!!

If anyone has tips on still getting reservations for any of the sites in Rome and Florence without the formal ticketing policies, I would be very grateful to hear them!

Hello,

I am in the same boat, so to speak. I have not been able to find out anything definitively however. A friend of a friend did tell they believe the more popular sites, e.g. Colosseum, will not be free. We'll see...

I was in Rome for culture week last fall. Colosseum and everything else were free. And open. And short to no lines.

(Heavy tourist season will not have started yet and the government is trying to stir up more business -- that's why they have the things when they do.)

Hey Kelly,
I'm going to be in Rome that week as well. Everything I've read on Culture Week says that all state-run museums and attractions are free. It does NOT include the Vatican. I've also heard that the lines may be a little long for the off-season, but not discouraging.

I will be in Italy during culture week. I did make reservations for Uffizi and Accademia (Florence)in order to avoid waiting on long lines Call Select Italy and ask for Melissa. She is very helpful. Go to there website for the toll free number. The colliseum is free.
