I'll be in Italy during la Settimana della Cultura, culture week, where all state museums and sites offer free entrance. Does this apply to Venice, Florence and Rome? Does this affect the lines? If so, should I purchase a 'pass' for each city to cut the lines? Does this include Pompeii? schedule: 2 days in Venice 4 in Florence
4 in Rome Thanks!!
We were in Italy in 2006 during Culture week and all sites in Rome were free. Cannot say about others . Probably applies as well. We had no di

We were in Sicily during culture week, and every site was free entrance. It was a dream, and saved us a bunch of money.
There were no lines..
Everything under national control is free during culture week. Municipal outfits generally follow suit. You still have to wait in line and get a ticket, but you don't pay for it - - but, in the Italian manner, you have to give it up to the ticket taker. I wouldn't bother with a pass. Culture week is a deal to lure more folks into showing up before and after peak season. It isn't working that well - - lines don't usually exist.
Pompeii is included...I was there last year and the line was very short!
I did read in a previous thread that there were no lines during this week EXCEPT the Uffizi. With that in mind, I went to one of the websites suggested by Rick Steves and found that they had a significantly reduced ticket to reserve a space without waiting in line during this week.
