Cultural Week ~ Settimana dei beni culturali

I found a great web page about Cultural Week (http://www.beniculturali.it/sala/dettaglio-comunicato.asp?nd=ss,cs&Id=2958) but it is in Italian.

Does anyone have a web page in English or know of a listing of events. I have heard there is free admission to uffizi, bargrllo, and academia. Is this true? Also, is there anything free in Venice during this time?
Thanks!

Lisa, as far a I can make out, there are museums and archeological sites throughout Italy either free, cheaper or with longer opening hours, from April 18th to April 26th. Also other cultural events. I'm hoping newspapers etc will have listings as I will be in Napoli and Giardini Naxos at that time.

During cultural week, admission to state owned museums and sites is generally free. Couldn't find a list of free sites on the Ministry's website, but the TI offices in Florence and Venice can provide you with one. I've lucked into it twice, once when in Florence and once when in Rome. Lines were very long at the Ufizzi, but I walked right into the Accademia.

Lisa,

From what I can gather all the state-run museums are free. The state list shows a lot of Venice sights including the Archeological Museum, and Gallerie dell'Accademia, Grimani Museum, Galleria Giorgio Franchetti - Ca' d'Oro, Museum of Eastern Art, Palazzo delle Prigioni, Palazzo Cappello, and Arsenale di Venezia. Even understanding the language the site is hard to follow. The site also lists one church - Chiesa di Santa Maria Maggiore.

There are many more state-run sites in Rome and Florence from the looks of the site.

Hope that helps.
