Cuffaro vs Trenitalia bus (Palermo to Agrigento)

Curious if anyone knows why the bus replacing the trains on this route show 3+ hours for trip time when Cuffaro buses show the route takes 2 hours.

Also, I tried purchasing a Cuffaro bus ticket online but it was asking me for a tax ID, which I don’t have. After further digging I found that you need to buy the ticket directly from the driver on the day of departure. I was hoping to buy the ticket a few days in advance but I’m not sure if that’s an option.

Buying tickets on a bus is fairly common in less 'sophisticated' areas of Southern Europe. Not a problem, but make sure to have some cash on you. Sometimes these buses/drivers don't have a card scanner. Again, not a problem if you are prepared. Can't speak to the other issue.

I'm may not be as sophisticated as an northern European, but I assume a bus that replaces a train must do all the intermediate stops of the train it replaces. On the other hand the Cuffaro bus makes only one intermediate stop along the way.

Nine times out of ten if you get on a bus in Italy without a ticket to stamp / a credit card to tap, you end up getting fined. I don't know if this is the case also on private, long-distance buses like those run by Cuffaro, but you can buy a ticket at Cuffaro's ticket office or get it online. You can calculate your Tax Code here: https://www.professionegiustizia.it/calcoli/calcolo_codice_fiscale_estero/ It's not a real code, it's your name, gender, date and place of birth.
