You asked for best beaches but less commercial. Unfortunately, most visitors (reporting in here) think Monterosso has the best beaches, but it's also the most like a beach resort, that is developed, of any of the 5 villages. Manarola and Riomaggiore have the worst beaches (no sand). Vernazza's beach is tiny (better for sunning than swimming).

I am ok with small beach as long as it's sand so my son can play with it.if the water is not deep its perfect.I really dont want to go to monterosso as its too commercialised.I think Vernazza is a good bet huh?

Yep. Just don't expect California or Hawaii type beaches in the CT.

The sandy part of the beach in Vernazza is tiny. If you want your toddler to enjoy some beach time I'd recommend Monterosso. Yes, Monterosse is bigger than Vernazza. But in terms of "commercialism" I think both towns have become quite developed. I found Vernazza very touristy.

Hi Lengleng - La Cinque Terre is one of the most spectacular parts of Italy BUT - as far as taking a "toddler" hmmm? One of the most incredible parts is walking sections of the trail that connect each village. probably not too enjoyable with a really young one. As far as beaches Monterosso is it. Vernazza and the other villages at best have a small section by their harbors - Not a "beach" as you might think.
Commercialism - Of course - Rick Steve's put La Cinque Terre on the map a number of years ago and people love to see it - Like so many other amazing spots in the world. So don't let that aspect spoil your time there - It is Amazing and You will love it - even with your young toddler.

Ciao, greg

You might want to check out water/air temperature in October to see how enjoyable a beach experience is going to be for a toddler. Also, hiking from town to town is one of the major enjoyments of the CT. If you have a backpack for your child and are accustomed to carrying him on your back, you could really enjoy hiking. There are LOTS and LOTS of stairs. To have a toddler try to walk wouldn't work.
Don't expect much in the way of a beach at any of the towns. You can go from town to town by train or boat, so it could still be enjoyable.
