CT on way between Milan and Rome?

We are taking the train from Milan on July 26 to Rome, then the bus to Sorrento where we have rooms. I'm reading so much on this site about CT. Do you think we should make a quick stop in CT on the way and see it a little?

The CT is quite nice but it is out of the way but not too far that you can't make a quick diversion. For example, your trip from Milan to Rome will take 5.0hrs with no train changes. To go the the CT and then to Rome will add a net total of 3.0hrs to your train time (I checked) plus the time that you want to spend there. I wouldn't try to do that in one day. Still, not a bad diversion if you have the time.

You don't say how long you will be there, but it you have limited time, I'd say no. The CT is nice, but it's out of the way. Save it for another time. There's a lot to see where you are headed, besides Rome itself and Sorrento you have the Amalfi Coast, Capri, Ischia, Pompeii, etc. Happy travels.

Thanks for the advice. I LOVE this site! I'll save CT for another time.

You should not RUSH the CT, for it truly is the most relaxing place in Italy. Several days is the minimum for hiking the trails, going to the beaches and just exploring these five magnificient little towns. A lot depends on the time you have available. It's an easy train ride through Genoa to Monterosso, and the same from Monterosso to Rome through Florence or Siena, but definitely out of the way. Was a great location for us to combine with a trip to Florence last year.
