CT- monterosso or riomaggiore in August

Fellow travelers- could use some advice
Going to cinque terre in mid August with my sister-should we stay in old town section of monterosso or by sea in riomaggiore ???
Being its the height of travel season don't know if monterosso will be too hectic for us- any opinions will be greatly appreciated

This year? If so, you might have to take anything that's still open anywhere at all. Have you started checking hotels in either place yet?

ALL of the villages will be packed with tourists during the day so I don't think it matters much there either. We liked Monterosso (stayed in the 'new' town) because it had more restaurants, shops and other services. We chose the hotel to be just a short walk from the train station, and because it had rooms with a coastal view.

Just stayed in Monterosso in the old town. Absolutely loved it. It will be very very hot in August and Monterosso has better swimming.

bd,

I'd suggest trying Monterosso first, as it's the largest of the five towns and therefore has the greatest number of hotels and other accommodations. If you're travelling this August, I'd suggest getting something booked SOON! You may have to take what you can find, in any of the five towns.

Good luck!
