CT day trip from Florence

Can my gf and i make a reasonable day trip from florence to cinque terre? or is too far? do we need to stay the night? we are going to travel around italy on an 8 day trip and will spend some time in rome, florence and venice. and there is no time to stay in CT too long. but it sounds like a killer place to visit.

5T is beautiful but its about 3 hours each way by train from Florence. It's really crowded during they day so try to stay overnight. It's amazing to watch the sun set on the coast and it's a completely different atmosphere at night when things are calm.

thanks for speedy response. but it sounds like if we wake up early enough, we can make it a 3 hour train ride, walk around and catch an evening train back?

If only 8 days in Italy, I wouldn't do it on this trip. If I did do a day trip from Firenze, it would be to Siena-it's close and very nice too!

Salman - You are asking too much to do a day trip to the Cinque Terre from Florence. When travelling I just assume that I'll come back and that way I don't push too hard or feel like I've missed something. Have fun!

thanks all for your advice. it sounds like we will be pushing it. if we get bored in florence (4nts) maybe we'll try to get out there and stay the night and eat the cost of our hotel room in florence for 1night (we have a prepaid package for fl3orence).

I would not do a day trip to CT if you are traveling in peak season. It is an absolute mob scene during the day but very pleasant at night and in the early AM when the day trippers are gone.

Other places to go from Florence: Lucca, 1 hr on train....Siena, 1 hr on bus....SanGimignano, 1 hr on bus....Cortona, 2 hr on train.... Assisi, 2 hr on train. You can even go to Venice and back on the Eurostar in 1 day. Linda
