CT: best place to stay for people who can't climb stairs

I need accommodation in the CT that does not require lots of stairs as I have developed arthritis in one hip and Doc says stairs are a bad idea. Help! We are leaving in 3 weeks and I must revise my plans.

Leslie, my suggestion would be to look for accommodation in Monterosso. It's the largest of the five villages and has the greatest number of Hotels, and the larger ones will be more likely to have Elevators. Monterosso is also relatively "flat" which will make it easy for you to walk about and explore the village. Keep in mind that if you're travelling by train, there will be a few steps to board the trains. There's usually a hand rail, so if you have good strength in your arms, that will help. Disembarking from the trains may be more of a concern, as I find going DOWN stairs is often more difficult. One technique that might work for you is to go BACKWARDS down the stairs, holding the handrail. Just something to keep in mind..... Happy travels!

Leslie, My Mom is in a wheelchair so we chose Monterosso al Mare (northern most village in the CT). We had a car and stayed at a place called Punta Mesco which had a private parking area across the street from the entrance. The town is quite flat by the shore and we had a great time there, even got her on the beach under an umbrella with a little help from a friendly local. Good luck and have a great time!

Many thanks. I shall see what I can do to rearrange the pending trip.
