CT base choice: Levanto vs Monterosso

Hi - this is related to my main post:
https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/italy/feedback-appreciated-first-timer-18-day-trip-rough-plan

The lodging options in Monterosso seem very limited during the 3 days I plan to be there in June. A few remaining viable options are about 20-30 min walking distance to the beach/ferry and require taking hotel shuttles which generally run every hour or so, whereas in Levanto I can still find good options within walking distance to the beach / train station / town center.

This forum seems overwhelmingly prefer Monterosso over Levanto. For those prefer Monterosso, can you provide a few key pros and cons staying in Monterosso vs Levanto?

Thanks!

If you are hiking, you can hike from Levanto to Monterosso. And if you are not hiking, you can take a train from Levanto to Monterosso in minutes. So, I think only the accommodations themselves and your desired level of physical activity really matter. There are many fans of Levanto.

Staying in Levanto is fine. It’s a 5 minute train ride away and you can take the ferry too.

I would take the ferry. It’ll be a scenic 30 minute ride. I stayed in Monterosso and the day I took the CT ferry I wanted to go Levanto to take the 10am ferry from there but didn’t wake up in time to do it.

I always prefer staying in Monterosso as it has some nice hotels and restaurants and a great ambience in the evenings. It's a good idea to book hotels as early as possible, as especially these days they tend to book up quickly.
