Because bus station is near Siena hotel, I want to go from CT to next stop, Siena. Anyone know if it's quicker to Florence by train, then p/up the bus there, or go by train back to Piza, and find a bus there? Can't tell by looking at the map. Any great suggestions on food in Siena? Thankyou. I love this site on RS.
louise, Arriving at the rail station at Siena isn't really much of an inconvenience, as it's easy to take a Taxi or Bus up to the town. If you'd prefer to travel by Bus in order to arrive at Piazza Gramsci, the route I'd take is: > Train from La Spezia (or whichever C.T. town you're staying in) to Pisa Airport. That trip will take ~1.5 hours. > Bus from Pisa Airport to Siena. There's apparently only ONE departure per day, which departs from Pisa Airport at 11:45 and arrives in Siena at 13:35. DON'T forget to validate! When is your trip taking place? One minor complication is that beginning on 13 December 2013, the rail station at Pisa Airport will be closed in order to allow construction of a new "people mover" system. Therefore you'll have to travel to Pisa Centrale and then take a local Bus to the airport. Using the Bus on that route from Pisa is still reasonably fast. Happy travels!
Louise, there are train runs from the CT to Siena without going through Florence. The downside is that you will change trains 3-4 times to get to Siena. For the train to Florence, you will change trains 1-2 times. At Florence, you can change trains again for Siena or walk about 800' to the SITA bus terminal and take the very nice Corse Rapide bus. No matter how you get there, the trip will take 3.5hrs-4.5hrs.
