Cruising out of civitavecchia

We will be arriving the day before the cruise, not enough time to go to Rome. Any recommendations of where to stay?
Thank you!

Stay in Rome. It is difficult (but can be done) to get to Civit.. without going through Rome. And there is very little to see and do in Civit.. so you might as well overnight in Rome. As suggested take the Leonard Express into Rome (Termini) and stay at a hotel near station. We prefer Hotel Sonya about three blocks south, and Contilla is even closer. It is basically a commuter run to Civit... three/four trains an hour taking from 45 min to 1:15 depending on train. You can see your cruise ship from the Civit.. station. About a ten minute walk to port entrance and a shuttle bus to your ship. RonInRome.com has a much better description of getting to the port than the one above. We spend the morning in Rome and catch a noon/one pm train to Civit..

We stayed in Rome before a cruise and I would suggest taking the train in the evening to Civitavecchia. Unless you really would like to spend as much time as possible in Rome...I feel you would be much more relaxed being in the town and getting to the ship the day of.

Oh, good to know. Other people had said to stay in Rome. I kind of agree with you. We'll be tired from our flight and don't know how hectic we want things to get.

You'll be tired sure, but I always get a big burst of energy when I emerge from the train station into Europe!

If I'm gonna be tired I'd rather be tired in Rome than Civi. At least there is stuff to see and do in Rome.
