Cruises in Cinque Terra

Hello, A friend recently told me that cruise ships are now stopping in Cinque Terra. Is that true? Does anyone know which towns they stop in and when is the cruise season? I'm headed there in May and would like to avoid such things if possible :)

Are you sure your friend wasn't referring to the boats that run between the villges? I was there just last summer and there were no cruise ships. I sure hope this isn't true!

I was there in October and there were no cruise ships. Just ferries.

I highly doubt it is true. Where on earth would they dock??

It is possible that one of the tour options from Livorno is Cinque Terre...I hope not though!

Yes, I know Princess has at least one crusie that has an excursion from Livorno to the Cinque Terre.

I think you go by bus to Rio Maggiore and then take a boat ride to Vernazza.

I'm not sure how many people are on these excursions - maybe 50?

Brian - No cruise ships stop in Cinque Terre - closest location is Livorno - about one hour and fifteen minutes south. There are very nice private tour boats run by locals out of Portovenere but that's all.

Hello everybody.
From what we know here, there's a project involving Costa Cruises and MSC Cruises to have a daily stop in La Spezia, to allow guests to visit the Cinque Terre and Portofino by guided excursions.
At this stage it does'nt seems to be effective but it will probably be soon. In any case the main port will be La Spezia, after that, probably, the excursion will be by ferry ( the ones that already cruise along the Cinque Terre coast) or by bus.

I can tell you this...2 summers ago when we were staying in Vernazza in the summer there was a group of people walking through the town led by a person holding a giant Mickey hand (Disney Cruise Ship). My guess is that the boat anchored offshore and they were ferried ashore by small excursion craft.
