Cruise trip stop Genoa

Hi, we will be making a stop in Genoa in early December from 9:00-6:00. Looking for recommendations for what to do? (Cruise excursions are very limited)
Thanks

Take a taxi to Camogli or Santa Margherita Ligure, a short distance down the coast.

There's also train service to Santa Margherita Ligure, which would be a great deal cheaper than a taxi, if it's practical to get to the departure station from your ship. I don't know whether it's a hassle to get to a useful train station in Genoa from the port. Various trains stop at a variety of Genoa train stations. Travel time ranges from 26 minutes (from Genova Nervi, which is well south of central Genoa) to 64 minutes (for trains making lots of stops along the way).

You can check the schedule for your travel date at https://www.trenitalia.com/en.html.

You must use Italian station names on the Trenitalia website. For Genoa, use Genova (Tutte le Stazioni ) for a list of departures from all stations. Once you determine which station is most convenient to your cruise dock, you can choose that specific station from the list to see which departures are closest to you.

I just returned from nine nights in Santa Margherita Ligure. I visited Camogli on a day trip and was reminded of how much I love it (had stayed there on a previous trip). If you can make it, I would recommend it over "Santa."

The train station is high above the town - not too much of a problem to go down the stairs when you get there, but more strenuous going back up. There is now an elevator you can take. Head for the maritime museum on the main street. You'll find the elevator on your left when you reach the stairs for the museum.
