Can anyone recommend an inexpensive hotel we can stay at one night very near the port.? We are going on a cruise out of Cittivechia in May. Also does anyone know if you can leave luggage at the port? We would like to leave our luggage for the cruise and only take backpacks to tour Italy for two weeks before the cruise and are looking for a way to leave our luggage. Thanks for any suggestions.
gatormomab, we could give better advice if you revealed your home city and country in your profile. Are you coming from the US? The more inexpensive a hotel is, the fewer services it will offer. I'm sure there are few chain motels in dismal Civitavecchia, but no one wants to sleep there. It is much more common to sleep in Rome and take the (often, less than 5 Euro) train to Civitavecchia. Rome is place you want to sleep in!
Honestly, I've never asked, but I don't think a luxury hotel would accept long-term luggage storage, even for a fee. There's nothing in it for them, except risk and little income return. It's more likely that there are luggage storage services in Rome, but I can't help you with that. Have you asked the cruise company? Or is your relationship with them only through the internet?
I've never used this service, and it's not at the port, but here's a long-term luggage storage company in Rome:
I'd recommend staying in the city versus the port as well. What city in Italy are you flying into?
