We are planning a trip to Italy for next spring. We’re not set on exactly where we are flying into and out of Italy, but we definitely want to visit The David in Florence, spend some time in Rome, and to visit Sicily. Ideally, we would like part of this trip to include a cruise of the coast. However, we’re not interested in visiting other countries. I did find one called Sicilian Splendors on the Wind Surf. Any suggestions? Note that this is our second visit to Italy. We already toured many of the popular places like the Vatican, the Colosseum, Pompeii, the Amalfi coast by boat, etc. and spent time in Rome, Sorrento, and Positano.

It looks like you might have visited about one thousandth of the major destinations that Italy offers to a traveler...just a bit of Rome and the area near Naples/Amalfi Coast.
If you are set on a cruise, the WindSurf looks good; it's one of only a few that do not include other countries I think.
What is it that draws you to Sicily?

My mother-in-law was first generation here from Sicily. This trip is mostly for my husband. He also wants to go to Florence to see the David.
Since I have never been on a cruise I thought I would try to add one into this trip!

I am not endorsing the company since I have never booked with them. But you can use their filters to find various cruise companies that may work for you in a range of ship sizes and prices.

Many nice places in Italy are not on the coast, so they are annoying to get to from 9 hours in a port. Do you want to avoid “independent” travel? Would you hire guides and cars for places like Florence? Duration of trip? How many days in Florence and in Rome?
Having been to Italy several times, I personally would not combine northern and southern Italy on the same trip. We did a Windstar cruise with several stops in Sicily, but it was a very limited “view” of Sicily-kind of like taking a shower with a raincoat on. I think the ship stopped in Malta, too, which you have ruled out.

I’m not absolutely set on a cruise. In fact, given what one of the responses said about their time in Sicily while on that cruise, I have ruled it out.
I am now thinking of spending 8-9 days in the Tuscany/Florence areas, 4-5 days in Rome, and 8-9 days in Sicily.
Yes, I will book some tours in those areas (not Rome, we’ve already done that), but I also want time to just explore.
Any suggestions are welcome.
Also, would it be better to start in Tuscany/Florence, fly to Sicily, and then leave from Rome?
