I am disembarking at Civitavecchia at the end of my RC cruise. We arrive at 7:00am. How long will it take to disembark?
I am trying to reserve train tickets to return to Rome and need an approximate time.
Ask your cruise line about this. If you have only carry-on luggage you can disembark as soon as all the port formalities are concluded, generally an hour or so after reaching port. If you have luggage you have to retrieve on the pier it is a different story. For my part I wouldn't book a train ticket for before 10:00 am if that is the case, but do consult the cruise line.
First off, there is no need to book a ticket ahead of time from Civit .... It is basically a commuter run with three to four trains an hour - mostly regionale with a couple of ICs. It is always a bad idea to purchase a Regionale ticket on-line because it comes with restrictions. Just buy the ticket when you get there. There is no discount for advance purchase of Regionale tickets and the ticket, itself, is only 8 to 12E depending on the train.
.
If the ship docks at 7 am it will be close to an hour before you can depart. Second, the ship then will take off all the priority passengers headed to the airport on their buses. Ships always assigned departure times depending on your travel schedule. If you have just carry on luggage only you can probably just walk off once the priority passengers are off but you will pass a check out point. Once off, there will be port shuttle buses to take you to the port entrance and from there about a half mile walk to the station. And it will be a walk. The cabs want a fare to Rome or the airport and not the train station. Just follow the crowd. There will be lots of people doing the same thing.
Thanks so much for the information. Have been to Italy and cruised, but this is first time to do both during one trip.
We have taken three cruises out of Civit.... and stopped there for one port call. We know routine very well. Pack light so the walk to the train station is not overly stressful. It is a flat walk along the beach.
As Frank said, there is no need to book the train ticket ahead. Just go with the flow.
