We are grandparents traveling with grandkids (age 13 and age 15) visiting Rome for 3 nights at the Crowne Plaza in mid-May; then traveling on up to Venice, Salzburg, etc...... This was the closer hotel in Rome we could reserve with reward miles. From the attractions (Spanish Steps, Panthion, St. Peter's, etc) or the Termini train station in Rome, I see we need to take Metro A toward Battistini, get off at the Cornelia Station, then take bus # 889 to the hotel. Would you recommend taking the transit system or just taking a taxi? Would it be safe at night? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
Thanks so much for the info. At night, are taxis usually available at Metro Stations? So we could just take a taxi to our hotel from an attraction, or take the Metro to the Cornelia Station and if a bus is not available, grab a taxi for the shorter ride to the hotel. Thanks.
If you know about the 889 bus, you may have already visited this site. There are also the 98, 881 & 892 buses that go by the hotel on the Via Antica Aurelia. And the N15 runs every 40 minutes from Termini all through the night. This site gives all the bus times from their start points, and is pretty good, once you get the hang of it. http://viaggiacon.atac.roma.it/
With four people, the taxi is almost always cheaper and certainly more convenient. You can get a taxi anywhere. Taxi stands are everywhere or flag them down on the street. Taxis in Rome are fairly cheap and honest.
