COVID testing to return to US

Traveling to Italy in October
We are vaccinated.
What if we randomly test positive for COVID prior to returning to the US?
Are we required to quarantine in Italy for 10 days? Until a negative test?

Will hotels be an option for a place to stay?

Thank you,
Mary

There was a thread on TripAdvisor not too long ago, started by a vaccinated gentleman who became ill on his first night in Italy and subsequently tested positive. As he explained the situation, he had to quarantine for 10 days at his own expense (and his hotel jacked up the rate, too), then test again. If he was still positive, he expected to have to quarantine for an additional 10 days.

I can't find that thread on TripAdvisor or the one here that informed us about it. I hope someone else bookmarked one or the other.

May have been on Tripadvisor as well, but the thread I saw from them was on Reddit, the r/europetravel sub.

But basically, yes, you are required to quarantine immediately, the test site will notify health authorities, at your expense, so basically wherever you are staying at the time.
