Covid pass on trains. Recent experience?

Trenitalia says a covid pass is required to board high speed, cross country trains. Since I would only have my CDC Vaccination card I think it would suffice but I would love to hear some recent positive or negative experiences.

Your CDC card serves as your Green Pass

Scroll thru this forum, there are many reports from current and recent travelers that confirm this.

On Monday last, we took an IC train from Mestre to Assisi. We had to have our temperatures checked in the tunnel before we were allowed to go to our platform. About 90 minutes into the journey they came around and checked for proof of vaccination. The CDC card was accepted without question. No problem.

I purchased train tickets in Palermo Centrale last week for a day trip to Cefalu. The ticket agent asked for our green pass and we showed him our CDC vaccine cards. He said they only accept green passes. I started to explain that the US does not issue green passes and he abruptly cut me off and waved us away (with our tickets). Anyone could have purchased tickets from the machine without proof of vaccination so his grumpy attitude seemed odd.
When our tickets were scanned on the train, we were asked for our green passes again and showed our CDC cards, which were accepted.
Two days later we purchased train tickets at Palermo Centrale to Palermo airport from the same ticket agent. We had our CDC cards out. He was very pleasant and indicated they weren’t necessary!
All together, we have taken 6 train trips on Trenitalia in 10 days. Our proof of vaccination was only checked twice: once in Palermo Airport and once from Palermo Centrale to Cefalu.

Yes, have your tickets, CDC Vaccination card and passport with picture all set on the platform just before boarding and easily available while in the coach for when the conductor comes around.

The ones who have issues seem to be the folks without their stuff ready (digital pass holders having to unlock their phones, and then it holds up the lines). Once they got to me, the staff appreciated having everything "fanned out" and ready to read when I approached and just waved me through. This goes towards working ticket agents doing last minute changes, etc. There were several times I was helped right away instead of having to wait for others to get their phones out, etc.

(I'll add the lines really were not lines, just huddles around the staff checking documents so be purposeful and don't expect others to queue up behind you.)

I went through Rome, Venice, Naples, and Florence the first few weeks of September without any problems. There were random temp checks in a couple of places but it was not consisentant.

Have fun.

Agreed.... just used mine on train from Rome to La Spezia. They all for it for all museums or indoor entry we've done so far as well. Will often do a temp check.

On Trenitalia train now 9/26 from Rome to La Spezia. They just checked my ticket and CDC card. He made sure I had two shots and one of the approved vaccines. No problem. I’m on an intercity train with a reserved seat.

FYI ~ in Rome the only place that asked for my CDC was at the Castel St Angelo, I didn’t do a ton of touristy things there this time around as I was there briefly. Even dining indoors last night at a Michelin restaurant they didn’t ask to see it .

Took Italo fast train (150 MPH) 4 days ago, Rome to Bologna. The conductor came thru the cars after train was underway. He asked to see a Green Pass, and pulling out my CDC card, I said that Americans had a “White Pass.” Accepted immediately, although he commented how low-tech and simple our hand-written documentation was, for such an “advanced” country.

Thanks for the personal experience posts. I always do my research but real and recent experiences from travelers is the best information.
