Covid & Hotels

Yes, while in Rome, we lucked out on testing positive prior to return flight and are now in our 5-day isolation/quarantine period - 2 more days to go. Still showing positive so have to wait another 5 days before we can get a “Recovery Document” to get on a flight back to US.
Thinking of changing hotels at 5-day end.
Not looking for top tier nor bargain basement; 4 star range with breakfast in a walkable area.
Recommendations? Thanks.

ChristineH: just had a chat with stateside doc and they will provide recovery letter at 10 day mark; not before.
Any way around this? Not looking forward to yet another 5 extra days if can be avoided.

Several people are citing the CDC which has zero to do with what happens to you if you are in Italy and test positive for Covid. You must quarantine for 7 days, then test. If you are still positive then you have to continue to quarantine. There are people who have been stuck for quite a long time. Whoever told you 5 days is not correct. The minimum amount of time to get a recovery document is 10 days but only if you test negative. I'm so sorry this happened to you.

There are two factors at play here.
1) The requirements to get documentation of recovery for the purpose of returning to the United States. This can indeed be done in 5 days after documented positive test if symptom free or decreasing symptoms.
2) Any local or government required quarantine measures of the host country.

A person contracting Covid in the UK or Spain has no other requirements from those countries to quarantine. A person contracting Covid in another country, such as Italy or France, may have local requirements that they need to meet as well. These local requirements can be very specific, but also may just apply to one area.

The reason for so much confusion is that people are trying to generalize experience from one location to what the experience will be in another location. The quick summary is to be aware of how to get a certificate of recovery in general and then know what are the requirements for the location where you test positive.

I found this quote in the Rick Steves weekly update quite interesting.
"The bigger issue is local quarantine requirements. In most countries, there's a five-day quarantine once someone tests positive and that time is spent in a hotel. If asymptomatic, they’re allowed to go out but masking is required. As soon as they test negative, or when the five-day quarantine (with no symptoms) is completed, they’re allowed to move on and continue their travels (or return home)"

Can anyone direct me to an official Italian government website, or news release, or law, or rule, or government Order, etc, that specifies the procedures and requirements for international travelers who test positive in Italy for covid (eg, on the day before their return flight)? For example, the official directive that specifies you must quarantine for 7 days, then test again, and if you are still positive then you have to continue to quarantine.

I have spent probably 1.5 hours googling the web and searching for the official rules or directives as set out by some italian government agency, but have found nothing. Its not that I doubt the correctness of whats been said in this forum thread, but I’d like to review the official rule or whatever it is that imposes the requirements. I am in a RS tour that finishes in Rome on May 31.
