Any suggestions? We will have a couple of days to make the trip with a little one and are looking for suggestions of cool places to go through, as we would like to break up the long drive!

We enjoyed the drive up the coast to Pescara. We continued inland and stayed in Abbruzzo but you could choose a location in or near Pescara then drive into Rome from the East passing through the National Park. Lovely scenery on both drives, BUT you do not want to drive in Rome. Where will you return the car? You will also want a GPS unit as navigating once you get close to Rome is nightmarish.

Thank you! We aren’t planning on driving in Rome, just picking up and dropping off the car after we do our loop down! :) and I think we are planning on using the maps.me app for navigation, as it’s served us well in the past and it doesn’t require cell phone service, but good to know about navigating outside of Rome!
