I need reliable leads to rent country lodging for 6 to 8 individuals in May of 2012, prior to a planned cruise leaving Venice. Within 80 miles of Venice desired. Near Padua ideal. Small town country setting desirable. Cleanliness and accommodations most important! If you have had a personal experience would appreciate your input and if acceptable, a way to communicate with you. In October 2010, we stayed at Villa Dolcetti. It's a tastefully remodeled house that was built in 1635. To say our room was opulent is an understatement. I felt like I was sleeping in a castle. All rooms had a large, d bathroom. The bedroom walls are covered in a beautiful blue and gold fabric and the furniture is white, trimmed in gold. Every bedroom is a different color. Thank goodness the windows are double-paned with outside shutters because the villa is located on a busy street next to a canal. It's about a 25 minute ride into Venice and a one hour ride into Padua by bus. The bus stop is across the street. Our host provided us a lovely buffet breakfast with espresso drinks each morning. He was also very helpful in providing us tourist information. This accommodation is listed in Rick Steves' current Italy tour guide.

Don't forget to look north of Venice as well. We stayed at my daughter's near Pordenone, 1:15 away by train and 5.40 euros each way. It was super easy!
