We want to avoid the traffic we think we'll enounter in Florence and are considering using country roads. However, doing so will take 4 hours vs 1 via the hwys. Can anyone advise from personal experience if the country road alternative referenced above is the smart alternative? Is the traffic circumnavigating Florence really so bad that we must avoid it if at all possible and does the country road option from Lucca offer the beautiful Tuscan scenery everyone hopes to experience?
