Count down begins

Hi

Thanks everyone for your help with planning my first trip to Italy. The reality is hitting me that 17 days from now, I will be in Italy. So excited but so nervous. I have booked about everything in advance. I left some days open if I decide to do something last minute.

Here is what I have so far:

June 1st: Arrive in Rome around 12 pm Flight to Lamezia Terme at 5 pm. Stay in timeshare in Drapia for next week.

Do day trips to Stromboli, Sicily, Islands and snorkeling. Nothing is booked yet.

June 8: Fly to Marco Polo airport Overnight at Mioni hotel in montegrotto terme for 4 nights.

June 9: open

June 10: open

June 11:Train and full day tour with gondola in Venice (Walks of Italy).

June 12: Train to Rome. Overnight for 3 nights at Navona Residenza de Charme.

June 13. Train to Pompelli, 3 hr guided tour.

June 14: Coliseum underground tour. Visit other sites in Rome.

June: 3 PM flight back to JFK.

  1. Anything else I should do or restaurants to try in Rome, Venice. What I have booked is things on my bucket list.

  2. Do I need to get a converter or adapter?

Thanks
Jennifer

All of the EU except the UK use the same round double-tined plugs. You will need plug adaptors for any chargers for electronics. Any luggage store should have them at this time of the year.

RS restaurant recommendations are always wonderful, if not always cheap.

I note that you are free June 9-10 in the Veneto. If you have an interest in Giotto's frescos Scrognini Chapel in Padua is amazing and only 45minutes away (but it requires reservations).

If you want something more "Alpine" added in there are a number of one day tours that go the South Tyrol's Dolomite Alps from Venice. Just Google "Tours of the Dolomites from Venice." I have had success with Viator in France and Belgium, but I cannot vouch for the Italian tours.

Jennifer,
Check what you plan to take to know if you need an adapter or a converter. If your device (phone charger, etc.) says “120-240 VAC, then a simple adapter will be fine. If it is something that generates heat (hair curler, hair dryer), you will need a more expensive and bulky converter.

Just don’t take anything that needs a converter. Leave hair dryers, etc. at home. We are in Europe right now and are doing fine with just adapters.

Hi

Thanks about the adapter. I figure this was the best place to ask since I lost my dad 2 yrs ago. He was my go to person for all this electronic stuff. I am definitely going to look at Padua. I know that Verona caught my interest. I realized it is impossible to do everything in 2 weeks. I suspect that I will be going back next summer.

Hi

Is it reasonable to do a day tour to Dolomites from Montegrotto terme? It looks so beautiful up there

The fastest trains to Bolzano take about 3 hours each way. Visiting Castelrotto or other small towns takes even longer. I would find that too much travel for a day trip. Lake Garda (near Verona) would be a closer option if you're looking for something different from another city visit.

Hi

I am considering Lake Garda. What is best way to get there if I don't have a car. Tour or independently.
