Costs for staying in Venice

People say that Venice is expensive.
I’ve just spent 17 nights in Venice. People often wonder what Venice costs. So a 68 year old guy, travelling solo, staying in an apartment, cooking some simple meals, eating out several times. I took four day trips, to Verona, Padua, Possagno and San Vito di Altivole.
Costs ran out at about 53 euro a day, or about 900 euro total, excluding rent.
Museums were 130 euro, which included two passes through the Archi Biennale at twenty euro per go, plus a guide book.
Transport – 145 euro, but vaporettos were cheap as I have a Venice Unica card. That includes transport to Verona, Padua, Possagno and San Vito di Altivole.
Breakfasts, lunches, spritzes, gelati etc 205 euro.
Supermarket – 210 euro
Dinners – 90 euro – three @ 30 euro
Other things, random costs, coins for street musicians, traghettos, whatever, 120 euro.

So that might be a fair guide. Add to that air fares and accomodation and you would have a rough budget. You’d need to maybe add a bit for vaps, depending on what you do.

It was about 53 euro a day, EXCLUDING rent. I left rent out, as it varies so much from place to place and person to person. The apartment cost about 63 euro a night, via AirBnb.

I found Airbnb to be user friendly. I was able to book my family of four adults vacation for 2017 in Rome, Orvieto, Florence and Venice through them. I plugged in my search parameters and used the map to find locations I was interested in staying. I also found some good deals within my budget for 2br/2ba apartments in all my central locations, Rome $130. nt, Florence $93. nt, Venice $121. nt. I know I don't get use of concierge service, but it is a good trade off for me and my family. I've also used Airbnb in the US and had good experiences too. It's nice to have breakfast, light meals, stretch out and do some laundry in an apartment. Self catering apartments aren't for everyone, depends on what you're comfortable with and want in a vacation.
