Cost of texting with Italian SIM card?

I'm trying to set up our 2 daughters with access to texting so they can stay in touch with their friends (within reason).

I've got an unlocked phone from ekit.com with $20 in credit; incoming texts are free and outgoing are 79 cents each. That is 25 texts that one daughter can send, which is reasonable for our trip. (She can buy more minutes herself if she uses those up).

I'm wondering how the cost would compare if we bought a pre-paid SIM card in Italy for our other daughter? I'm assuming incoming texts would not be free, but what do outgoing ones cost?

Or I could just add time on the existing ekit SIM card, but then they would have to keep track of usage to divide it evenly. ;)

The prepaid card was free with the unlocked phone, so I can't complain (especially since incoming TMs are free). But I'm aware that the texting charge is high, so looking for something with a better rate that we can buy in Italy.

TIM stores are usually easy to find. The cards can be recharged at most tobacco stores.

The sim costs 10 euro and comes with 5 euro credit. Most of the other carriers have the same start up costs.
