My husband and I will be at the Civitavecchia train station and would like to get to the port for our ship in November..does anyone no the cost to get a taxi from the train station
Thank you
Lorraine, We walked from the train station to the port entrance as it was only a few minutes walk down the street. There was a free bus at the port entrance that took us to our ship.
Rick explains in his Mediterranean Cruise Ports guidebook, "Getting from Your Ship to the Port Gate: It's a long walk or quick shuttle-bus ride to the port gate. Ships provide this free shuttle service to the gate (they run each way every 15 minutes or so, with the ship’s name in the front window). You’ll leave the port through a single small gate in the port fence; shuttle buses back to the ship line up right by this gate. Stepping through the gate, past the people hustling taxi services and rides to the airport, you meet the actual town. On your immediate right is the very helpful Cruises Services Center. The TI is ahead, just across the street." He continues, "From the port gate, walk about 10 minutes to Civitavecchia’s train station; ride the train into Rome; then connect by taxi or public transportation to what you’d like to see in Rome."
Concerning taxis at this port, he goes on to say, "I’d avoid taxis here. But if you want to take one, you’ll find them waiting at the port gate, attempting to extort €15 for the very short ride to the train station (at least triple the fair metered rate), or significantly more for the ride into Rome (figure about 1.5 hours each way, depending on traffic; the going rate should be €110-150 one-way, or €300-400 for an all-day Rome city tour, but many cabbies inflate their prices dramatically). Taxis generally meet arriving ships, or you can call 076-626-121. Beware of unlicensed taxis offering a huge price break; local police sometimes follow these “gypsy” cabs and impose hefty fines on both the driver and the passengers."
Unless you are loaded down with luggage or have mobility problems, the walk from the train station to the port entrance is reasonably short and can be done by anyone in reasonably good condition. Perhaps ten or twelve minutes at the most. At one time the "roninrome" site had a good article about this and maybe even a video showing the route. TC
Took a taxi from the train station to the port with 2 other passengers on the same cruise - cost us 12 Euro for the cab and took us and our luggage right to the embarkation point. Yes, I had planned on walking but with 32C temps and high humidity I was glad of an air-conditioned cab!
