Cost of a 10 day trip to Italy

I'm trying to get a ballpark idea of the cost of a 12 day trip to Italy. We'd fly to Rome and then down the coast to Sicily and back. Just can't seem to find any info on cost including flights and hotel at 2012 prices. Help?

Do you mean to drive to Sicily or fly? It should be easy to get flight information by going to the airline websites and the websites of the booking sites. Put in your dates and which airport you want to start in and Rome as the destination.

I figure $100/day for food, museum entry and misc. Then airfare is what it is - look on the airtravel websites. If you are taking a train anywhere, you can see those costs online also (www.trenitalia.com).
See hotel prices at www.venere.com - you can choose a price range. So most of the costs are set, other than the $100/day for food, etc.

I would suggest that you go to a travel agency with your question. They will be better equipped to provide you with an accurate estimate then all of the "suggestions" you will receive on this web site. No slight intended to anyone providing estimates for this post.

Depends on when you're going. Prices for lodging can be 50% higher during peak season.

cost will depend on so many things look at the airfares for your travel dates look at hotel prices add in costs for transportation (train, rental car???) add in costs for sights add in costs for food add in costs for shopping? figures out all those things and round up
it really depends are you a frugal traveller, do you like to splurge now and again?

We figure $2500-3000 per week for two adults, exclusive of airfare. This covers lodging (B&B, apartment, or modest hotel), food, admissions, guided tours, transportation. Does not cover shopping. I plan on 85 euros per day for food (which includes wine), then scope out lodging costs on the internet using a Rick Steves list as a start then looking also at Trip Advisor, VRBO, and specific websites for the particular B&B or hotel if I am going that way. For example, if I see a B&B in Rick Steves, I contact them directly rather than going through TA or any other booking agency. As to admissions, those are all in any reputable adn up-to-date guidebook. You just have to do the research. We can only give you generalizations on costs based on what we've each experienced. As others have said, you can get almost exact train fares at Trenitalia.com. Note the exchange rate is favorable now. I like to plan conservatively adn assume the rate will be higher when I travel. Then, if it is lower, I am in great shape. Last month our average exchange rate was $1.32 per Euro, but when I started planning the trip it was $1.48. I used the higher number in planning to avoid unpleasant financial surprises. Since the rate was low, we saved about $1000 in a one month trip.
