Hello all!
I am trying to decide between staying in Cortona or Orvieto for 3 nights; December 30 - Jan 2.
Any suggestions of one vs the other or any other opinions.
I chose these two because they will be nice and quaint, but still have some life in them during this time of year.

Kevin- have been to both but would opt.for Orvieto. There is a more things to see there and easy to hop a train to Rome or Florence if you wanted to. Cortona is a high hill town and a car would be required?? It has only one main street and requires a lot of stamina for walking higher up to the fortress.In the winter it might not be the most lively place to be. Hope this helps.

It has only one main street- flat- but the rest of the town is at a 45 degree pitch for walking .In the winter it might not be the most lively place to be as well. Hope this helps.
I couldn't find anywhere to stay during that time that could work for our family.
I only found an o.k. rated hostel.
Did you try Hotel Corso in Orvieto?
