Leaving Cortona going to Tropea , will have three days to explore somewhere before I need to be in Tropea. Any suggestions?

Assuming you are going by train--how about Naples?
(Or fly and find somewhere in Calabria?)

Which idea? If you are flying out of Naples, then maybe you do not need to go there twice, assuming you will spend at least one night in Naples before your flight out as the trek from Amalfi to the airport is a bit of a slog. What else is on the agenda?
Salerno is nice also, especially for its proximity to Paestum.

Agree--it helps to provide too much information rather than too little!
It can be difficult to get to Salerno from the Sorrento area, so I still like Salerno for a few days.
No interest in flying?
