Cortona to Florence

We will be leaving Assisi for Cortona day trip. First question, is it possible to see Cortona in a day? Do they have a place to hold bags generally? Second question, what would be our best option to get to Florence that evening where we have a room?

You can see Cortona in a day. I don't know if there is a place that will hold your bags.

I think the best option to get to Florence is to take a bus from Cortona to Camucia, the newer town below Cortona and catch a train to Florence. There is a good tourist information center in Cortona that can help you with that, and good travel agents there as well.

Thanks so much for the info. We have planned our entire trip but didn't know what to do there. Stay or go on to Florence.

Jennifer, you can see Cortona in a day, but not really do it justice. Reading "Under the Tuscan Sun" makes Cortona come alive and you'll want to spend some time there.

Getting to Florence from Cortona is easy. Use the tourist information office in Cortona, then take the bus or a taxi down the mountain to Camucia to catch the train to Florence. Keep in mind that the train station in Camucia is not staffed...or at least wasn't when we used it.
