Taking family and 2 young children for 12 days to Cortona (renting a villa) and then Cinque Terra for 3 nights.
Questions: things to do and day trips around Cortona, next which town should we stay in on the CT or Levanto? We will be 8, 6 adults, 2 kids. Ideas for hotel, or airbnb in or around the CT?
We would love to have a cooking class in our villa in Cortona, any recommendations? Lots to think about, thank you.

All of these popular destinations are within about 60 miles of Cortona as the crow flies, some much closer than others. You can check driving distances and estimated driving times on ViaMichelin:
Arezzo
Assisi (highly recommended, but rather hilly)
Siena (highly recommended)
Orvieto (highly recommended)
Gubbio (haven't been, but want to see it)
Todi
Perugia (larger city)
Folks with some experience driving in the area (I have none) can probably identify a scenic loop or two.

And add Spoleto and Spello. We drove to these during our stay in Cortona, along with the others from acraven's great suggestions.
